Bedtime Chats

Have you ever noticed that your children get really creative when it comes to avoiding bedtime?
Ryan has a favorite way of extending his awake time. During the day he is much more interested in his friends and his toys than he is in me, however, at bedtime he suddenly has incredibly interesting things that he MUST tell me at once. Most of this stuff I would love to hear if I could get him to talk to me during the day. Unfortunately, because of his timing, I'm not always as responsive as he would like. For example, often as I lay with him when he's falling asleep he will tell me about dreams, or stories he wants to write, etc. Gradually he will realize I'm not paying attention and he'll poke me until I wake up and react to whatever he is telling me.
We really have to get the bugs worked out of this system.

My kids use the excuses of loud sounds, needing drinks, "I forgot to say I love you" -for the eighth time, and etc. Tonight they are sleeping with their heads in the hall because I told them if they came out again they'd lose their blankets. They sort of obeyed.

I always realize that I haven't read to my kids once it is bedtime, so I try to fit it in right at the end. I've never had anyone complain when Mom offers to read a story, but sometimes I really think they need the sleep more.

Children have the most manipulative imaginations don't they? They know just when to use them. Ashton tries to make deals with me to get out of bedtime and Zander...well, he just screams when he doesn't want to be put in bed :)

Seth and Liam are getting it down too. Lately it's been I'm afraid of the dark. Which is really funny when it's still light outside and even with their blinds shut you can still see really well in their room
