Playdough is the New Fav

Over the years I've collected random playdough tools.  I find when I pull out the playdough now that all four kids stop and play for a while.  For Christmas we got a box with a bunch of colors.  Wow!  Talk about new creativity.  Isabelle especially has gotten into it.  She creates food and people and has had a lot of fun.

When I don't have lots of colors I make my own, I have two different recipes I use:

Playdoh
1 c. salt
2 t. cream of tartar
2 T. oil
2 c. flour
2 c. cold water
food coloring optional

Mix flour, salt and cream of tartar in a pan.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it forms a ball around the spoon and pulls away from the pan.  Remove from heat and knead immediately.  Occasionally knead it as it cools on a rack.  It will keep indefinitely in a ziplock bag.  It needs no refrigeration.

Koolaid Playdoh
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. salt
2 packages unsweetened koolaid
2 c. boiling water
3 T. cooking oil

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.  Mix liquids together and pour into dry ingredients.  Stir until it forms a ball. At first it will appear as if it will never make a smooth playdoh mixture.  As the mixture cools and becomes less sticky, take it out of the bowl and knead until smooth.  Store in airtight container.
