Growing Pains

Tommy turned one last week.  He has never been a grand sleeper and was especially awful the week before his birthday because he had an ear infection and we were out of town with my family in Eden.  I've been wondering when to wean him (I've not been nursing a lot but during the night he doesn't want to go back to sleep without nursing, so it's been tricky when he doesn't sleep well.)  So the first night back (his birthday) when he woke up at 11:30 wanting to nurse back to sleep I snuggled and laid him back down (with lots of tears).  I went back in after about ten minutes and loved him again and laid him down.  After a bit more crying he fell asleep.  He woke up once in the night and we went through the same sad routine.  Since that night he has slept grand and I've eased him out of his morning feed.  He has been kind of sad about that and because of that it's a little tender for me too.  This morning he wanted Scott and cried when I took him.  My heart hurts a smidge that the babe who wanted me almost all the time for a whole year (nearly) is growing up and now chooses Dad.  I know it's a good thing, I guess I'm just having growing pains too.

Funny both of my kids only wanted me in the morning and at bedtime until I stoped nursing them. It really is biter sweet.
