Last night as I was picking Izzy up from a birthday party I received a call from Ryan and this is the conversation that followed:
Ryan: When will you be home? (sounding close to tears)
Me: 20 minutes
Ryan: Cuz Dad has to go to a reception (down the street) and if you're not here he says I have to go with him.
Me: When does Dad have to leave?
Ryan: Wait--oh, (sounding pleased) he says he'll check out the refreshments and tell me if I should come. You know what I like about receptions (pause) the cake.
